Happy Gobble Gobble Day!!
Can you believe that it is Turkey Day already! I can't it is crazy how fast this year has been going, except when I am ready to deliver this BABY! This is our 3rd year of being here in Utah. We miss being around our family and miss the joys that come with family visits. I know right now I am missing my family A LOT!! I miss our family traditions of me being in charge of the pies, watching the Macy's Day Parade as a family, smelling the turkey, seeing my mom and sisters in the kitchen, Me trying to sneak some roll dough, then for lunch we would always go to Jack in the Box for cheeseburgers to hold us over until Dinner time. Then my grandparents would come over and we would all be together. One big family. We would stuff our faces full, way more than what our stomachs can handle. Then mom would whip up some real whipping cream. The girls usually trying to get grandma to let them lick the beaters! Then we would all gather in the family room, snuggle together with all of our blankets and start watching all the Christmas Movies. That is what makes me miss my family!
Now that we are a family of our own and hours away from family its our turn to make out our own traditions. We get to take things from both sides of our families and mesh them together to make traditions for our kids.
Here are some of the traditions we have been able to make:
Make dough boys for breakfast (or scones)
Watch the Macy's Day Parade together
Cook while doing that
Eating snacks and appetizers for lunch (Since no jack in the box up here)
Eating dinner as a family
Cleaning up
To me the most important part of Thanksgiving is watching Christmas Movies
all the old favorites that have now became my children's favorites
White Christmas (with Bing Crosby and Danny Kane)
Christmas Vacation
Miracle on 34th St (original and black and white)
ELF
Jingle all the way
Frosty
Rudolph the Red nose reindeer!
Of course we usually cant watch all of them but then continue to do it the through the weekend
So many traditions and so much to do all in one day. Of course some has changed this year just because of me being on bed rest. But Hubby is doing a wonderful job to fill my shoes. So most will be done!
One thing I think of on Gobble Gobble day is what we are grateful for. We have so much to be grateful especially this year. So many that I can't list it all, but I can some.
Gospel
My hubby
My children
My family all of them
Our health
Doran is still cooking
Hubby's job
friends
Ward family
Beautiful winter weather
great Doctors and hospitals
Epi Pens
Of course so much more.
Even though this has been one of the toughest years for us we have so much to be grateful for. I hope that as we all celebrate this "Thankful" holiday we can remember that. Not the things that we are short on, or lacking. But what we actually have! That is what I am doing and every day before and every day after. That we can all keep our thankfulness in our hearts all year round.
Like we say in our family
HAPPY GOBBLE GOBBLE DAY!!
